Project 2 focusses specifically on presenting, critically understanding and forming academically motivated judgments on completed pieces of disseminated research. It aims to prepare students to act as researchers both in terms of understanding how to disseminate their own work effectively and to take roles as critic and examiner in academic settings.
Course unit description
The course requires the attendance of four higher seminar events during the PhD period: presentation of research work in a colloquium setting; defence research work in a mid-term seminar setting; acting as an opponent for another PhD project presentation in a colloquium or mid-term seminar setting; attending a mid-term seminarwork.
At the end of the course the student have:
- Presented initial research findings in a conference and workshop setting
- Attended a mid-term seminar for another PhD student
- Defended developed research findings in a mid-term seminar with an external opponent
- Acted as opponent for the presentation of initial research findings for another PhD project
The form through which the learning outcomes are met can vary, but the suggested form is that students present initial findings from research in the Autumn Research Colloquium in the third semeest, that they attend at least one (and prefereably more) mid-term seminars for their peers; that they act as opponent for another PhD research project in the context of the Autumn Research Colloquium, and that they defend their own research project at a mid-term seminar with an external critic.
Deliverables
There are no deliverables for the course other than the activities outlined above. The student has the responsibility to produe material such that the above activities can take place in a meaningful way
