This course is designed to allow the PhD candidate to account for PhD level learning that relates directly to the development of specialist skills developed for the conduct of the PhD research gleaned from a research context beyond the project.
Course unit description
This course allows the PhD candidate to aquire and reflect upon specific methods and skills necessary for completing the PhD research project within the research discipline and using the modes of enquiry with which the project is engaged.
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
- Identify key questions of method in relation to the enquiry proposed in their own research design
- Strategize about how to answer such questions of method
- Understand and demonstrate keys skills and methods required to carry out the research project successfully
- Engage with confidence in formalized apparatus around research dissemination through publication
The course design is defined by student and supervisor in collaboration in collaboration with the Chair of PhD Programme. It can be based around supervision, conference attendance or taking external courses up to 7.5 ects.
Deliverables
The course requirement may be fulfilled either by providing a logbook of learning activities undertaken within the PhD project (conferences, seminars etc.) or are defined by the course description of the external course taken.
